SHORELINE CLEANUP

This fall Bishop Grandin Greenway was lucky to be a part of the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup presented by Loblaw Companies Limited. This is not just a cleanup -- it's a comprehensive survey of trash and out of place items found on the Greenway.

For example: the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup team of 38 volunteers found 180 kgs of garbage including 31 pieces of styrofoam packaging, 414 plastic bags, 47 pop cans, 14 toys, 8 car parts, and a mattress.

The team did an amazing job of collecting and recording all of the debris that people have left on the Greenway. Click here to view some pictures, and remember to be respectful of our environment and please use the trash cans when you are out on the Greenway.

The Bishop Grandin Greenway is an accessable network of natural areas and public pathways that tie together the communites along Bishop Grandin Boulevard in south east Winnipeg. As you follow the Greenway you will find community gardens, naturalized ponds and many other features. A multi-use trail that runs the length of the Greenway encourages families and people of all ages to get outdoors and enjoy an active life style.

Each year brings new developments and opportunities to participate. Check back soon to see what projects are in store for 2012, and keep an eye out for coming events.
