Extensive naturalization
and the development of a No Mow Zone on the Greenway over the past few
years is now providing a stunning display of color, texture, sights
and sounds! The photos below (taken this year) are from various
locations on the Greenway.
Members of the Bishop Grandin Greenway Inc. in parternship with the
Naturalist Services Branch have defined the Greenway east of the Red
as a Naturalization and No Mow Zone. Naturalization is a
process where a disturbed site is restored to its natural heritage and
ecological function by encouraging the establishment of native plant
species. Naturalization is a long process that can take many years to
develop, but the long term benefits of these natural areas to our well
being and health far outweighs the time it takes to develop a natural
and diverse plant community.
